Getting Ready for the Great Escape

The past few days have been so busy I can”t believe it. Younger daughter was having a garage sale so we added the last of our possessions that don’t fit in the Prez (that’s our Holiday Rambler Presidential – our faithful 5th wheel) and landed enough sales to cover our gas to the Keys. We are planning on leaving somewhere around September 23rd, give or take a day or two.

Our new specialty GPS arrived so now I have to learn how to program it so we can lay out our trip down there. You are supposed to be able to program trips on your PC and load them into the GPS. Will give you my opinion on that once I give it a try. So far, all we’ve done is test it out on a trip to the outlet mall and like the features we used at that time, but that is only a small part of what this unit is supposed to be able to do. It was a tough decision between the Rand McNally or the Garmin. We went Garmin.

I have our reservations all set in the Keys, but need to figure out where we will stop along the way. We have decided that there is no need to hurry, so no more than 300 miles a day in travel before we lay up for the night. Like our friends the Woodies say – it’s not a vacation, it’s a lifestyle. I’m in the “lifestyle” mode and hubby is still in “vacation” mode. We had dinner with the Woodies the other night and they were able to convince him that waxing the trailer could be done in the Keys as easy as it could here at home base (Heritage Hills RV Park). If you haven’t been to Heritage Hills in Thompson, Ohio you should try it. A great little park with terrific new owners who are really doing a first rate job of fixing the place up. If you do ever come, be sure to stop by our site and say “Howdy!” We love meeting new people and making new friends.

I have the insides all set and ready to roll out. Hubby is almost done with the outside. Today he is putting a UV protectant on the roof. We had the trailer professionally washed at the International HRRVC Rally in Elkhart in May and Prez was still looking very spiffy and shiny so washing it today was a pretty quick job (that will get a laugh out of Hubby since he’s the one doing the work – not me).

Anyway, the time is flying by and I can’t believe we will be heading out soon. For those of you wondering about the truck bumper repair, still hasn’t happened, but looks like the saga will end this week so turn back in for the update.
